The Organic Salon.com - Frequently Asked Questions

As the world of organics is growing and evolving, our FAQs page will be updated when there are new developments and information. If you are looking for more information, or have questions please contact us.

What is and Why Organic?

The cosmetic industry definition of organic is any compound, which contains carbon. Carbon is found in anything that ever lived. So then it could be said that the toxic petrochemical preservative, methyl paraben is 'organic' because it was formed by leaves that rotted over thousands of years to become the crude oil to make this toxic preservative.

Organic farming means that no artificial pesticides, herbicides, no hormones and no growth promotants are used.  Instead, by using natural biological and environment friendly applications such as rotations, we can respect and support our planet. In turn Mother Nature provides us with potent, beneficial ingredients that are better for our health.

Why Chemical Free?

The skin is the biggest organ of the body and absorbs about 60% of what we put on it. In Japan researchers have found Parabens to actually age the skin. This ingredient has also been connected to skin allergies, skin sensitization, cancers and particularly breast cancer in women.

So, to us chemical-free should be all those that could end up being detrimental to your health such as synthetic chemicals like: Parabens, Petrochemicals, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate, TEA, DEA, MEA, PEGs, Any chemicals that directly cause cancer and that disrupt the endocrine system. Check out our Ingredients Glossary .

Why Certify?

Although at the moment there is no legal requirement for manufacturers of organic beauty products to be certified, many are choosing to because there are many company’s ‘claiming’ the organic status. If a product is certified it means that the manufacturer must comply with high international standards. Also it is a way to prove to customers that their products truly are organic.

Skin Detox

If you have been using products, which contain chemicals, and you switch to non-chemical organic products it is possible that your skin could come up in pumps or spots. Your skin can literally become addicted to the chemicals and suffocate and when you stop you using them your skin will start to cleanse. Don’t panic, give it time (about a month) wait for your skin to settle and get used to a purer product.  If something doesn’t feel right your intuition will lead you in whether to continue use.  Always feel free to contact us.

There are certain aromatherapy oils which shouldn’t be used during pregnancy, however often it comes down to an individuals own case. Each brand has indicated on products if they should be avoided during pregnancy. If you need to question further we recommend that you ask your doctor or seek advice from a qualified Aromatherapy practitioner.

Can be hypersensitive to certain essential oils, if you have any reservations or concerns we recommend that you ask your doctors advice.

Allergies and Sensitive Skin

If this is you or maybe you’ve had reactions to products before.  We recommend that you apply a small amount to the inside of the elbow first.  If you do get reaction, you are welcome to contact us.
